If you are a teen then don’t use a ball heavier than 14-15 pounds.
But if you’re in your twenties you COULD use a ball that is 16 pounds, but don’t hurt yourself trying to heave a ball that is clearly too heavy for you down the lane.
For a beginner just stand straight, and swing the ball with each step you take. Walk slowly toward the lane, and don’t bend your elbow when you swing the ball. Also, don’t swing your arm around your back, because then you’ll throw the ball out if you can’t re-adjust your arm (which probably less than 1% of all beginners know how to do correctly). Also, don’t stop and then roll the ball. On the last step you take you should release the ball.
When you release the ball try to roll it onto the lane, don’t throw it, and follow through on the swing.
Most importantly: Have fun. You do better when you have a higher confidence and a lighter mood.
Well, for someone who has never bowled before..

Roll it, don’t throw it!
Try and have the same throwing motion each time then move your starting alley spot to you get it to work
Your arm has to be straight no matter what.
If your arm stays straight so does the ball.
