Taking photos in a bowling alley – any tips?

I have a Canon SX 10 IS, so a super-zoom point-and-shoot digital camera. Additionally I have a basic external flash I can mount on to the the camera. No problem. It has a diffuser, different levels but is pretty basic.

We’re headed to the bowling alley in about 45 minutes and I was wondering: what are some times to taking some great photos? The lighting in bowling alleys is usually less-than-desired, and I just wanted to make sure that they look great!
