Bowling Tips : How to Select a Bowling Ball
Learn how to select a bowling ball
Learning how to bowl is a lot of fun, but like any sport you learn things as you go and will slowly decide to buy equipment that will help you perform better. If you are a beginner bowler, you will probably start out using a house ball, but you will probably quickly decide to get your own ball if you like the sport. The advantage of having your own ball is that the ball will be drilled to fit your hand for your style of bowling. This will give you more control over the ball and will definitely help improve your game.
When you decide to get your own ball, you will be able to select the color and the weight of the ball. You will find different balls online and in pro shops with all sorts of different colors and patterns. You can even find bowling balls for your favorite sports teams too!
Generally, a beginner will start out purchasing a “plastic ball” at the lower end of the pricing structure to get a feel for what they like. A basic ball in the pro shop
I visited last week was under $50 not including the cost of drilling. After I selected the ball I wanted, the pro in the shop then fitted it to by hand both in the placement of the finger holes and the width of the hole for my thumb and fingers.
As your bowling progesses, you may want to invest in a better quality bowling ball with a reactive surface. This type of ball will “react” more to the conditions of the lanes. If the lanes are drier, you want to use a shinier ball. If you ar bowling where the lanes are slicker, then a reactive ball with resins in the particle stock. This helps the ball start to roll sooner and hook sooner too.
For questions on bowling balls, the pro shop at your local bowling alley is a tremendous resource to find the perfect ball for your style of bowling as well as your budget.
